PulteGroup and Sustainability

PulteGroup incorporates many energy efficient and environmentally sustainable practices into our new home communities across the country, which translates into lasting savings, a comfortable home environment, and smart use of natural resources.

We are an industry leader in the construction of energy efficient homes. Since its inception in 1996, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program has set the standard for energy efficiency in new home construction. ENERGY STAR qualified homes must be at least 15 percent more energy efficient homes built under the International Residential Code (IRC) (source energystar.gov).PulteGroup and Centex have built close to 120,000 ENERGY STAR-certified homes, more than any other homebuilder, since 1996.

In January 2009, PulteGroup was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.) for its achievements in the “Builders Challenge” program, which has a goal of constructing homes approximately 30 percent more energy efficient than the typical newly constructed home (source U.S. Dept. of Energy). PulteGroup built 649 homes that met the program’s standards in 2008.

A sampling of PulteGroup’s “green” efforts includes right-sized HVAC systems that reduce energy consumption; low-flow or dual-flush toilets that can reduce a home’s water usage by thousands of gallons per year; ENERGY STAR® appliances; low-water xeriscaping; recycled building materials; weather-sensitive irrigation systems and preservation of walking trails and natural habitats.
